As the old saying goes—you can’t get anything for free anymore. Organizers of the annual National Night Out festivites in Henning must not have received that memo as they finish preparing for the annual town celebration.

The event will be held on Tuesday night from 4-8 p.m. and will feature everything from a car show to kids quilt show, an outdoor movie with free popcorn, free food and Henning HOPE will be collecting winter wear donations.

The night will also include an opportunity to meet local emergency respresentatives, safety demonstrations, tours of fire trucks and ambulances, as well as a tour of police and sheriff vehicles. There will also be games, door prizes and vision checks provided by the Henning Lions Club.

Jamie Wilson, who is helping to organize the event, said the night is a good opportunity for people in the community to come together and have a fun night.

“It’s just a nice night for everyone to get out on the town,” she said.

The doors will open on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and the food, car show, games and giveaways will get underway at 5 p.m. All of the activities will be held at the Henning Event Center and Henning Festival Grounds.

Kids quilt show

In addition to the National Night Out activities, a kids quilt show will be held at the Henning Festival Grounds on Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. The quilt show will be an opportunity for local youth who participated in a recent quilt camp at the Trinity Center to showcase their work, as well as give the public the chance to show off some of the custom creations they made at home.

Wilson said the quilt show is open to any crafts project that a child has made and not necessarily just a quilt.

“For the kids who are in the quilt camp, I just thought that would be good to show them,” said Wilson. “They do not need to be part of the (quilt camp) group.”
