Faith Jorud, an RN at Lake Region Healthcare, recently received the Daisy Award.

Faith Jorud, RN in Lake Region Healthcare’s (LRH) Fergus Falls Med/Surg unit was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses at Lake Region Healthcare.

The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Jorud was nominated by patient Lynn Johnson, who was present at the award ceremony and read her heartwarming nomination letter.

Her nomination read in part:  “There are no words…to express my gratitude for your work and dedication when I was a patient at LRH….thank you isn’t enough for your amazing care during my hospitalizations… Your positive attitude and smile were the highlights of my time there. You made my stay so much more pleasant, and your expertise made me comfortable in a time of fear. Your compassion and kindness did not go unnoticed. Each time you came into my room you shared a smile with me —and that gave me a reason to smile despite what was happening. You had a gentle touch. You always had time to listen to me and my endless questions. You shared your knowledge with me and my family. And what I never ever will forget is what extra-special you did when I asked you to take a photo of me for my little grandchildren who were concerned about where I was and what was happening and why I wasn’t reading them their usual good night story on FaceTime and your response…you knew immediately what to do. I can’t thank you enough for the special excellent care you provided and for the unique gift you are to your patients.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
