0The Deer Creek Fire Department responded to a grass fire on Tuesday, April 18 in rural Deer Creek. The fire was reported at 4:38 p.m. in the 5200 block of County Highway 50 in Deer Creek Township.
Upon arrival of fire personnel, approximately one acre of land had been burnt with a running traveling at a moderate rate towards a heavily wooded area. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. Approximately two acres of land was burned and there was no damage to property reported as a result of the fire.
According to a press release from the Deer Creek Fire Department, the property owner was burning brush in a burn pit and with the moderate wind, low humidity and warm temperatures, embers from the brush pile sparked nearby grass.
The Deer Creek Fire Department would like to remind area residents that burn permits are required and to always be cautious with spring burning as dead grass and vegetation can easily ignite.
