Burglary reported south of Underwood

Sheriff deputies, on Feb. 17, reported that a resident of East Battle Lake narrowly averted becoming the victim of a scam.

A male caller saying he operated an oil rig persuaded the county resident to deposit money in bitcoin for him. The money asked for was $6,000 but authorities said the money was still in a cash app.

The East Battle Lake residents still has access to the app. Authorities later said the resident has cut ties with the person who said he operated an oil rig.

Burglary reported

A woman returned home Feb. 19 and found that she had been burglarized, with missing items. She lives at Joten Lake Road, south of Underwood.

Sheriff deputies said a door may have been tampered with by the burglars.

Injuries on I-94 pileup

Sheriff deputies and other first responders came to assist victims at a pileup along Interstate 94 in southwestern Otter Tail County at 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 20.

Injuries were reported close to the Otter Tail/Grant County line. Ashby first responders from Grant County were among those who assisted sheriff deputies from Otter Tail County.
