Misegades scores 1,000th point in conference clinching game

Members of the Henning High School basketball team celebrate on the court with Tyson Misegades after the senior scored his 1,000th career point on Tuesday night.

Henning once again retook its throne atop the Park Region Conference last week as the Hornets captured the Park Region Conference championship. The conference title means the Hornets have won four of the past six outright conference championships.

In addition to winning the outright conference title, senior guard Tyson Misegades became the second boys basketball player to eclipse 1,000 career points. He reached the milestone in Henning’s 73-36 win over Verndale on Tuesday night.

This week the Hornets will hit the road for the final two times in the regular season as they will travel to Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday night, before traveling to Underwood on Friday night.

Henning will wrap up its regular season next week with home games against Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Tuesday and Ashby next Friday night.

The Hornets are currently ranked fourth in the state and are 21-1 on the season.

Tuesday

The Henning Hornets were inching closer to history on a pair of fronts on Tuesday night. Not only were the Hornets closing in on the outright Park Region Conference championship, but senior guard Tyson Misegades was inching closer to 1,000 career points. Henning was able to check both milestones off their list on Tuesday as Tyson scored 24 points to break 1,000 career points and Henning once again found itself on top of the Park Region Conference with a 73-36 win over Verndale.

“Congratulations to Tyson Misegades on reaching the 1,000 point milestone tonight,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “As his coach and his dad, I’ve seen the ups and downs he’s been through. I know how hard he works and how much Henning basketball means to him. He’s been in the gym with me before he could walk and tonight was just a small part of the journey for Tyson and our team.”

In addition to Tyson’s career milestone, becoming the second boys basketball player to reach 1,000 points this season, the Hornets also wrapped up the Park Region Conference championship.

“Tonight’s win officially locked up the 2022-23 Park Region Conference title for our program,” said Misegades. “Henning boys basketball has now won four of the last six outright PRC championships.”

The Hornets took a 45-20 lead at half and slowed down the pace quite a bit in the second half as a number of reserve players were able to get extended playing time.

Tyson Misegades led all scorers with 24 points on just 7-13 shooting, while Mason Hammer scored 21 points and Kale Misegades scored 13 points on just 6-9 shooting from the floor. Kale also finished with a team-high 8 assists.

Lane Dilly nearly missed out in reaching double figures with 8 points, while pulling down 6 rebounds.

Henning won its 10th straight game on Thursday night in front of a packed crowd at home against neighboring Parkers Prairie.

“Tonight was a really fun atmosphere in our gym. Our guys fed off the energy and jumped out early and then extended the lead throughout the game,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “Parkers Prairie has some really nice athletes and a lot of size. They are a tough match up. But, we were able to turn them over early which led to some easy buckets and open looks for our shooters.”

The Hornets took advantage of their home court advantage by shooting 60 percent from the field, including 10-19 from behind the 3-point line.

Mason Hammer led all scorers with 28 points, while Tyson Misegades once again broke 20 points in the scoring column with 22 points.

Kale Misegades finished with a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists. He shot an impressive 8-10 from the floor in the win.

Lane Dilly stayed busy on the boards all night as he finished with 12 rebounds, including 5 on the offensive end of the court. He also scored 8 points in the win.
