0OTC defeats Mahnomen/Waubun 43-42
The week was a very busy one for the Bulldogs. After some December cancellations being rescheduled, it led to a lot of wrestling for the Bulldog wrestlers.
The week started on Monday in Barnesville with a JV tournament. The Bulldogs wrestled tough with Mason Christianson taking home a first place finish. Lanston Barry, Levi Evavold, Anthony Rousu and Kayetana Lopez-Moen all finished with a 2-1 record.
On Tuesday the Bulldogs hosted the United North Central Warriors and the BHVPP Raiders. The Bulldogs came up short in both duals although the Bulldogs wrestled well. The scores of the matches were United North Central 75, OTC 6 and BHVPP 68, OTC 12.
On Thursday, the Bulldogs traveled to New York Mills for another triangular against both the Eagles and the Mahnomen-Waubun Thunderbirds.
The Bulldogs were able to pull out a victory against the Thunderbirds 43-42 as the match came down to criteria. The dual actually ended 42-42, but the Bulldogs gained the extra point due to having less forfeits.
OTC then wrestled the New York Mills Eagles and came up on the losing end of that dual.
Friday the Bulldog wrestling team hosted an elementary wrestling tournament in Underwood. The tournament saw about 240 entries on the night. The Bulldogs would like to thank everyone who came to help support the club. There were many people that volunteered their time to help make this tournament a success.
Finally, the Bulldogs competed in the Park Region Conference tournament on Saturday in New York Mills.
The varsity team had four place winners. Mason Christianson was able to finish in fifth place at 126 pounds and Conner Nelson also finished in fifth at 145 pounds.
OTC had two individuals make it to the finals, as Carson Roehl at 138 lbs. and Kale Rich at 285 lbs. both made their way to the championship round.
Roehl was seeded fourth, but was able to upset the top seed in the semi-finals. Roehl then came up a bit short in the finals finishing second.
Rich had a tough matchup in the finals as he faced the third ranked ranked heavyweight in the state, Marcus Peterson of UNC. The match was tied 1-1 late in the third period, when Rich took a deep shot, but was unable to finish and Peterson secured the takedown to win 3-1.
The Park Region Conference also has a JV portion of the tournament and the Bulldogs had several wrestlers finish in first place including: Lanston Barry, Kayetana Lopez-Moen, Brock Resch, Levi Evavold and Xavier Lewis.
The Bulldogs will conclude their regular season schedule on Thursday as they host Barnesville and Minnewaska in Battle Lake for senior night.
