Sheriff deputies, on Jan. 31, reported three scam attempts in Otter Tail County. Fortunately, none of the attempts resulted in loss of money for county residents.

The three scam attempts included one related to a job search via “Indeed,” another when a scammer tried to obtain bank account information via access to a computer and a third scam attempt related to personal passcodes.

Sheriff deputies and other law enforcement personnel point out that scammers often push for personal or financial information or money from job seekers.

People such as residents of Otter Tail County are often contacted by scammers over the phone, by email, text, direct message or pop up on the computer. Never click a link or download of an attachment from someone you don’t know.

Lastly, don’t forget about criminals going through your trash to look for financial documents. The best defense against “dumpster diving” is to invest in a shredder.
