Thursday vs. Wadena-
Deer Creek 63-52 win
On Thursday night Henning hosted Wadena-Deer Creek in a big conference game.
Head coach Mike Hepola said WDC has a very talented team and the team knew it would be a battle. The girls did a great job coming out and building a big lead right away as Henning was up by 20 early, but Hepola said the Hornets knew WDC wouldn’t go away. A combination of a little cold streak for Henning and them starting to get things rolling saw the Hornets with a slight 33-27 lead going into halftime.
The second half the girls responded with another nice run to get the lead back up to 20, but another WDC run got it back into single digits before we finally were able to walk away with a 63-52 win.
Hepola said this was a game that the team can hopefully learn from as the girls did a great job of withstanding those runs, which were due more to the Wolverines finding their shooting strokes and not necessarily because of bad defense.
Offensively the Hornets were once again led by Lyvia Misegades and Faith Fisher both in double figures as Misegades finished with a game high 24 points and Fisher finished with 12 points. Lily Fraki and Natalie Eckhoff both flirted with double figures finishing with 9 and 8 points respectively. Ally Hart 6 points and Becca Frederick 4 points rounded out the scoring.
