Sheriff deputies, on Jan. 11, reported two injuries during the collision of a SUV and an Amish horse and buggy. The accident took place at 10:58 a,m. near the intersection of Highway 50 and 580th Avenue, near Deer Creek in eastern Otter Tail County.
The two occupants of the buggy received minor injuries and were treated at the nearby hospital in Wadena. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured.
The driver of the SUV, while cresting a hill along the roadway, encountered the horse and buggy traveling ahead in the same lane, but at a much lower speed than the vehicle.
Deputies said the driver braked and turned to the left lane in order to avoid a collision but struck the buggy with the right side of her vehicle. The impact caused the buggy to separate from its running gear, and the buggy overturned on the roadway.
The horse ran ahead of the collision scene, pulling the running gear behind it.
Driver narrowly escapes from train accident
A driver whose vehicle became stuck in snow close to railroad tracks left his vehicle right before a Canadian Pacific train struck. There was damage to the truck’s back right section along with damage to the pickup box.
“Fortunately, the driver escaped from the truck in the nick of time and was not injured,” said a sheriff deputy.
The train-truck collision took place at 3:19 p.m. on Jan. 5 near the intersection of Cozy Cove Road and 385th Avenue, near Marion Lake, southeast of Dent.
Shop burglary
A trailer pickup box and other items were taken from a shop close to Highway 80, near Perham. Authorities were informed of the theft on Jan. 5.
Items stolen included a snowblower, tools, and two wire-feed welders. Sheriff deputies reported forced entry into the shop building.
