Hornets improve to 9-1 with three wins

0Henning to host Ashby, Sebeka this week
The Henning Hornets improved to 9-1 on the season after a busy slate of games heading into the Christmas/New Years break, as well as the first week of January.
Head coach Mike Hepola said the Hornets continue to improve both offensively and defensively and get ready for a crazy run these next few weeks.
The Hornets have three more games this coming week as they go to Verndale on Tuesday, before hosting both Ashby on Thursday night and Sebeka on Friday night.
Tuesday, Dec. 20
at Frazee 63-38 win
Henning traveled to Frazee to take on another Class AA team on Dec. 20. Head coach Mike Hepola said the girls did a great job of coming out and getting an early lead as they went into halftime up 34-18. The second half went about the same as Henning ended up winning by the final score of 63-38.
A great team effort with eight different girls scoring and three of them in double-digits. The Hornets were led by Lyvia Misegades with 16 points, Ally Hart with 14 and Faith Fisher with 13. Ava Eckhoff did a great job coming off the bench and finishing with 7 points. Lily Fraki scored 6 points, Natalie Eckhoff 3, Becca Frederick and Aaliyah Olson both with 2 points each rounded out the scoring.
Hart had a double-double as she led the team with 10 rebounds and also led the team with 4 steals.

Thursday, Dec. 22 vs.
Lake Park-Audubon
64-38 win
The Hornets hosted another section team on Dec. 22 as they played Lake Park-Audubon. The Raiders have a young team that plays hard and are capable of beating anyone on any given night so the Hornets knew they couldn’t take the game lightly. Henning once again were able to get off to a nice start and held a 39-17 lead going into halftime. The second half was much closer, but ultimately the Hornets won by the final score of 64-38.
Another great team effort as Henning had four different girls in double-digit scoring led by Lyvia Misegades with 15 points followed by Faith Fisher, Ally Hart with 12 points each and Lily Fraki with 11 points.
Aaliyah Olson and Natalie Eckhoff both scored 5 points each, while Becca Frederick and Alivia Gunderson rounded out the scoring with 2 points each. Misegades led the team with 8 rebounds followed by Fraki with 5. Natalie Eckhoff led the team with 3 assists and Fisher, Misegades and Hart all led the team with 3 steals each.

Tuesday, Jan. 3
at WDC57-34 win
The Hornets started the New Year off with a trip to Wadena to take on the Wolverines in a Park Region Conference match-up. Both teams came into the game with undefeated conference records.
Head coach Mike Hepola said the emphasis going into this game was Henning’s defense by limiting their offense to contested shots and making sure we got rebounds on any missed shots. The girls did a nice job overall as they were able to hold a 34-18 lead going into halftime. The second half was low-scoring, which Hepola said was fine with the Hornets as they ended up with a 57-34 victory over a good Wadena-Deer Creek team.
Once again the Hornets had three different players in double-figure scoring led by Lyvia Misegades with 23 points, Faith Fisher 12 points and Becca Frederick 10 points. Ally Hart had 7 points with Ava Eckhoff 3 points and Aaliyah Olson 2 points rounded out the scoring.
Frederick finished with a double-double from the guard position leading us with 11 rebounds to go along with her 10 points, while fellow guard Natalie Eckhoff had a solid 8 rebounds. Fisher led the team with 4 assists and 5 steals.

Friday, Jan. 6 at New York Mills 52-41 win
On Friday night the Hornets traveled to New York Mills for another conference game against an Eagles team who doesn’t have a great record right now, but the coaches and all the players know is a way better team than that record.
Head coach Mike Hepola said the Eagles are a tough opponent with a lot of experience and a lot of length.
The first half ended in a 25-25 tie. The second half the girls did a great job defensively and hit some huge shots to come away with a 52-41 victory.
Individually Faith Fisher led the way with 20 points, while Lyvia Misegades joined her in double-figures with 15 points. Lily Fraki and Ally Hart both had 6 points each and Becca Frederick 3 points, Ava Eckhoff 2 points.
Misegades finished with a double-double as she led with 11 rebounds. Fisher led the team with 4 assists and tied with Frederick for the team lead with 4 steals.

Saturday, Jan. 7 vs. Brandon-Evansville
68-29 win
On Saturday the hosted a boys/girls double-header with Brandon-Evansville which is another Section opponent. The girls continued a good run of defensive efforts as Henning held a 37-15 halftime lead before ultimately finishing with a 68-29 victory. It was a complete team effort and a good ending to the day’s events.
Henning once again had three players finish in double figures with Ally Hart leading the way with 23 points, followed by Faith Fisher with 15 points and Lyvia Misegades with 11 points. Becca Frederick had a solid game with 8 points along with Lily Fraki with 5 points. Natalie Eckhoff 4 points and Ava Eckhoff 2 points rounded out the scoring.
Misegades led the team with 9 rebounds followed by Hart with 7 rebounds. Misegades led with 2 assists, while Fisher and Hart led the team in assists with 6 and 5 respectively.
