Henning to host LP-A in a Section 6A match up

What started off as a three game week turned into only one game due to the weather.  It was a crazy week as the girls had morning practice on Monday due to a Christmas concert Monday evening and then didn’t have another practice, or game, until they traveled to Rothsay on Friday night for a game against a Section 6A opponent.

at Rothsay Friday, Dec. 16, 60-24 win

The Hornets traveled to Rothsay on Friday after going Tuesday-Thursday without any practices. As a result the team didn’t know what to expect as they were going against a Rothsay team who had started the season off 4-0.

The girls did a great job of coming out playing as a team on the defensive end and executing their game plan against their offense. Despite Henning not shooting from the outside as well as they had been, the Hornets were able to hold a nice 33-9 lead at halftime with nine different girls playing.

The Hornets had good balanced scoring in that half as six different girls scored, led by Lyvia Misegades, Faith Fisher and Becca Frederick with 13, 7 and 6 points respectively.

In the second half the Hornets were able to stretch the lead out a bit more, although Henning gave up more points defensively, ultimately winning by the final score of 60-24.

Head coach Mike Hepola said he was very proud of the overall team effort considering the circumstances of not touching a basketball since Monday morning and it was a nice win to get on the road.  Henning had eight different girls score and 11 play and everyone contributed and that bench productivity is going to be huge for the team going forward through the season.

Offensively the Hornets were led by Misegades and Frederick in double figures with 17 and 12 points respectively.  They were followed by Fisher and Lily Fraki with 9 points each.  Rounding out the scoring was Ally Hart and Natalie Eckhoff with 4 points each, Alivia Gunderson 3 points and Ava Eckhoff 2 points.

Misegades finished with another double-double grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds followed by Hart and Natalie Eckhoff with 6 boards each.  Fisher led the team with 2 assists and Misegades led with 4 steals followed by Fisher with 3.

The win brings Henning’s record to 4-1 on the season. This week the Hornets have a couple big games as they travel to Frazee on Tuesday night and then host another Section 6A opponent Lake-Park Audubon on Thursday night, before heading into the Christmas Break.
