Driver injured when vehicle strikes a horse near Pickerel Lake

A 64-year-old woman in rural Perham was able to escape from a fire inside her home during mid-afternoon on Oct. 19. She was taken to the Perham hospital with unknown injuries.

The house is located close to Highway 10, northwest of Perham. The victim was identified as Marianne VanWatermulen.

Dogs in the residence were evacuated and were not harmed. The degree of damage to the house was not immediately known.

Responding to the scene of the fire were members of the Perham Fire Department, county sheriff deputies, fire departments from Vergas and Frazee, Perham police and Perham Ambulance crews.

Home broken into at Urbank, items stolen

Sheriff deputies, on Oct. 14, reported a home break-in and several items stolen in the town of Urbank in southeastern Otter Tail County.

Items taken included a TV, PS4 PlayStation and safe that contained various items. The homeowners were out of town and were not expected back until Oct. 19. 

A friend of the owners had been staying at the residence. There were no immediate suspects.

Driver injured when vehicle strikes horse

One person was injured when a vehicle struck a horse on Oct. 15 near the intersection of Highways 35 and 74, west of Pickerel Lake in central Otter Tail County.

Injuries to the driver were non-life threatening. The victim was transported to the hospital in Fergus Falls. There were no details on injuries to the horse.
