Henning to wrap up regular  season in NYM

With Lillian Moench looking on, Lila Thorson picks up a dig during last week’s game against the Pillager Huskies.

The Henning Hornets improved their overall record to 20-5 with a pair of wins last week.

The Hornets defeated Wheaton-Herman-Norcross 3-0 (25-2, 25-21, 25-10) on Tuesday night and the Pillager Huskies 3-0 on Thursday night.

Henning only has two regular season games left on their schedule. On Monday, they travel to Parkers Prairie and then travel to New York Mills on Tuesday. The Hornets will then be off until their first round of the Sub-Section 6A Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

In their game against WHN, the Hornets came out firing in all areas. Henning’s serving was very aggressive, as was their attacking.

The Hornets did not give WHN many chances to attack, and if they did, they dug it up and put the ball down for a kill. Henning controlled the second game too, except the Hornets made a few unforced error, so the score was closer. In the third game the Hornets made less mistakes and the game was over quickly.

As a team Henning served 96 percent with 11 aces. They hit .175 with 39 kills and serve received 92 percent to target.

In the game with Pillager, the Hornets dominated from start to finish. Henning’s serving was aggressive and they were able to spread their attack and get kills from all of the girls, as the Hornets serve receive was near perfect.

The Hornets had 13 blocks on the night. All of the players who served, were perfect for the night, however Gretchen Eckhoff led the team in aces with 7.

Becca Frederick led in kills with 9, Ally Hart had 7, Gretchen Eckhoff and Lyvia Misegades each had 4, Myeisha Antoni and Natalie Eckhoff had 3 apiece and Alivia Gunderson 2.
