The American Heritage Girls will be hosting their kick off meeting on Sunday night. AHG participants complete a number of service projects, like a sewing project that was completed by Marlene Wahlin, Elizabeth and Nora Froslee.

Did you know there is an American Heritage Girls (AHG) troop in Henning? AHG is an organization for girls in kindergarten through age 18. The organization focuses on faith, service, and fun.

AHG emphasizes developing girls with integrity. Girls learn new life skills, build social-emotional skills, deepen their faith-walks, develop leadership abilities and find new friendships. The Henning troop has been in existence since 2014 and are seeking new members to join the group.

The troop has been involved in a number of service projects such as helping Henning HOPE with their Easter event, making Christmas ornaments for senior citizens, making tie blankets for families expecting a new baby at Health Resources Center, helping install an outdoor playground at the Henning School, making heating pads for senior citizens and assisting St. Edward’s Catholic Church with some cement work.

The troop has gone tipi camping at the Upper Sioux Agency State Park, attended Grace Camp at Lake Beauty Bible Camp, and camped at Glendalough.  They’ve learned life skills in the areas of heritage, arts, personal well-being, family living, outdoor skills, and science and technology.

Two of the troop’s members, Elizabeth Smith and Brigitte Froslee, attained the highest level of AHG when they earned the Stars and Stripes award, which is the equivalent of the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award.

There is lots of learning and lots of fun to be had in AHG.

“The AHG experience I most learned from was when my troop made blankets for families at Health Resources Center in Fergus Falls.  Health Resources helps the moms that need help for their babies.    I can see that the blankets that my troop made will help a lot of families,” said Troop member Emmie Smith.

“Come and join American Heritage Girls (AHG). We meet on Sunday nights once a month at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning. We learn about God, earn different badges, participate in character development, learn new skills and have fun. We take trips and can go camping. My favorite experience is when we went to the Upper Sioux Agency for tipi camping. It was an eventful adventure and we loved seeing God’s creation out in the wilderness,” said another troop member Elin Smith.

The first meeting of the year will be on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning.  This first meeting is for girls and their parents.
