Jenna Kovarik is continuing a bit of a family tradition as she starts her new position with the City of Henning. Her mother worked for the City of Milaca for a number of years and Kovarik always thought serving her community in the public sector looked like fun.
“My mom did it when I was a kid and it looked fun. I have always been in customer service. (The public sector) is new, but we are getting it squared away.”

Kovarik started as the new city clerk/treasurer for the City of Henning on July 25 and fills the void left by former city clerk/treasurer Kim Schroeder who took a job with the City of Wadena. Prior to coming to the City of Henning, Kovarik worked for United Health Care in the customer service department. While her family was living near Mille Lacs at the time, Kovarik decided to apply for the city clerk/treasurer position after being tipped off to the job by her daughter, who was also looking for a job.
“My 14-year-old was looking for a job and said ‘I could be a city clerk,’” said Kovarik.
While her daughter wasn’t quite qualified for the position, Kovarik’s husband encouraged her to apply for the job in Henning as he began a new position at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena. Wanting to get out in the public more and not work remotely, Kovarik was eventually hired for the position and the family relocated to Henning.
In addition to her husband Jordan, the Kovariks have three children including junior and freshman daughters, as well as a sixth grade boy who will all attend Henning School in the fall. Kovarik said her children are excited to attend school in Henning.
When she isn’t working, Kovarik said her family stays busy with their children and their activities.
The new city clerk/treasurer said she is looking forward to being a part of the community and meeting people in her new position.
“(I am looking forward to) meeting people and getting familiar with the area,” she said.
