Fishing items stolen near Big Pine Lake, estimated value of items was close to $6,000

The county sheriff office took several calls and assisted county residents following storm damage in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 21.

Calls pertained to power lines falling across roadways, tipped over propane tanks, fallen trees, assistance to senior citizens and other concerns.

One of the main damage areas was in and around the community of Ottertail just east of Otter Tail Lake.

Roof damage was extensive at both the Otter Supper Club and Carr’s Tree Service. Residents of nearby Buchanan and Blanche lakes reported damage to trees, cabins, vehicles, boats and pontoons.

Fishing items stolen 

east of Perham

Sheriff deputies, on June 22, reported the theft of several fishing items east of Perham, at Big Pine Lake. The exact location was close to Mosquito Heights Road.

A husband and wife told deputies that among the stolen items were two Lowrance depth finders, six fishing rods and a tackle box. It was believed that thieves used the lake side to access a boat and steal the items.

The approximate value of the missing items was estimated at close to $6,000. 

Road accident reported

in rural Pelican Rapids

Sheriff deputies, on June 18, reported a dirtbike-truck accident near Pelican Lake, northeast of Pelican Rapids. The incident took place at 4:57 p.m. near the intersection of Highways 31 and 20.

The dirtbike driver was injured, but not seriously, and was treated at the hospital in Detroit Lakes. 

Sheriff deputies said the dirtbike rider had been traveling westbound near Highway 20 on the shoulder of the road. A truck pulled into a parking lot and the dirtbike struck the passenger side tailgate of the truck.
