Downtown Henning will be taken back to the 1950s during four Rock and Stroll events this summer. The first of four community events, aimed at attracting custom and classic cars, motorcycles and other vehicles, will be held on Friday afternoon.

Don Jorgenson, who is helping to organize the event, said the concept of having a rock and stroll event came from a similar one that is held each month in Pierz. He attended one of the events last year which had approximately 500 vehicles. All of the merchants in downtown Pierz stayed open during the event, something he hopes will take place in Henning as well.

“That’s what I am trying to bring to do, bring the town back to life,” he said.

Several organizations will serve things like popcorn, special treats and are helping with the entertainment throughout the event.

Jorgenson said a number of businesses will also be staying open late to coincide with the event, as well as have a few specials that incorporate the 1950s theme. He credits the local organizations and businesses for working together to make the plan come to a reality.

Everyone is invited to attend the Rock and Stroll event on Friday and Jorgenson is hoping that residents come and see some of the classic cars that stop by Henning. The vehicles will be parked in downtown Henning from 4-8 p.m.

The event will be held from 4-8 p.m. in downtown Henning and will take place rain or shine. There is no charge to register a vehicle for the event and registration will take place at Scotty’s Auto Trim and Upholstery in downtown Henning.

In addition to Friday, the Rock and Stroll events will also take place on July 22, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16 from 4-8 p.m.
