OTC advances 18 to section track meet

Ally Hart secured three first place finishes, while Kinley Bormann and Grace VanErp secured two more top spots as the Otter Tail Central track team competed at the sub section meet on Thursday.
Held at Wheaton High School, the meet featured 11 teams from across the region. The top six finishers individually, along with the next four fastest times in the section, and the top three relays and the next two best times, will compete at the section meet. The section meet is set for Thursday in Pelican Rapids. The Bulldogs will have 18 athletes in 19 different events
Hart took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a season record time of 16.64, as well as the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best of 48.07. She also captured first place in the high jump with a jump of 5’, to edge teammate Myiesha Antoni who took second place with a personal best of 4’10”.
Bormann took first place in the 400-meter run with a personal best mark of 1:04.47, while VanErp took first place in the triple jump with a jump of 36’7 1/2” and second place in the long jump with a jump of 15’11”.
Nora Froslee also finished near the top spot as he took third place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12”59.08.
On the boys side, the 4×800-meter relay team of Jonah Hegemesiter, Blake Alonzo, Joseph Froslee and Isaac Scherfenberg took first place with a time of 8:52.38, while Scherfenberg was the top individual finisher as he took second place in the 800-meter run.
One of the biggest accomplishments of the meet was Jonas Hegemesiter tied the program’s pole vault record that was established in 1991, by clearing 10’6.
“All season coach Brian Hovland and I have told our teams the goal is to be our best at championship time,” said coach Brady Speicher. “We left the meet with many athletes improving personal best and beating their projected ranking. I’m excited to keep the momentum going into sections next week.”
