Event to be held at Folden Lutheran Church near Vining

The Leif Erikson Sons of Norway and Folden Lutheran Church will be celebrating Syttende Mai on Sunday, May 15. The event will mark the 208th anniversary of Norway declaring its independence. 

The event will be held at Folden Lutheran Church with a dinner being served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and program featuring Tim Peterson beginning at 2:15 p.m. Peterson of Battle Lake, will share his experience attending the 200th anniversary celebration in Norway, including slides of the Bicentennial plus Norway and Oslo where he lived for a year.

Peterson has been to Norway 16 times for business, a military assignment and family ties. He and his wife, Donadee, lived in Oslo for a year while he served as interim pastor of Oslo’s American Lutheran Church. Presently he is Executive Director of Mt Carmel Ministries near Alexandria on Lake Carlos.

The program is open to the public. The meal will feature meatballs, mashed potatoes and more. The cost will be $14 for adults, $7 for children ages 7-12 and children under the age of 7 will eat for free.
