The county board of commissioners has approved a motion of support to Ducks Unlimited for the Dora Township Wildlife Management Area acquisition project, east of Pelican Rapids.

Ducks Unlimited acquired 322 acres in Sections 22 and 23 of Dora Township in Otter Tail County through Minnesota’s Outdoor Heritage Fund. DU is buying this land to restore and protect wetlands and oak savanna to provide important wildlife habitat and public hunting land.

Ducks Unlimited plans to donate the land to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for public use to create the new “Dora State Wildlife Management Area” (WMA).

Highway update

Otter Tail County Engineer Charles Grotte provided a brief county highway department update to the board of commissioners earlier this month. Included was  planning for the highway operations study, the 2040 transportation plan update for 2022-28 and a streets policy.

Also reviewed were construction contracts for resurfacing, reconstruction, bridges and culverts, highway garage and other various and future projects.

In-house maintenance includes spring 2022 work of pothole patching, culvert cleaning, sweeping and shouldering and county ditch survey and inspections.
