Container gardening— This class will be an easy class for beginners who want to grow some basic veggies in containers. We’ll cover growing tomatoes, peppers, herbs, cherry tomatoes and even cukes! There will also be time for questions. Class is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Henning School. The class fee is $5. Registration deadline is April 5.
Succulent class— Learn about succulents! Origins, relatives, care and propagation. Class will have factual instruction as well as method portion of creating a succulent planter. Class is scheduled for Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at the Henning Public School. The class fee is $21 (in-cludes supplies). Registration deadline is April 4.
If you can’t beat it, eat it (Foraging in Otter Tail County)— Have you ever thought about trying to eat those “weeds” you pull out of your garden? Or why are those weeds even on the face of the Earth to begin with? If so, this intro foraging class will be of interest to you. In this session, the whys, types, nutrition and top items to forage in Otter Tail County will be discussed along with some beginner guidelines to keep in mind as you venture into the new world of foraging for food. Greens will be the focus of this hour-long session. Mushrooms will be left for another day. The presenter, Darla Medeck-Johnson of Perham, is in her 11th year as a University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener and educator. Class is scheduled for Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at the Henning Public School. The class fee is $5. Registration deadline is April 7.
Apple and more— Do you want to discover how to grow delicious apples, pears, plums, apricots and cherries in this area? Learn how to care for your fruit trees, watch for potential dis-ease, and how to protect trees and fruit from disease and insects. The class is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 from 7-9 p.m. at the Henning Public School. The class fee is $5. Registration deadline is April 12.
Cooking across the Mediterranean— This four-night course teaches how the flavors and traditions of the cultures along the northern Mediterranean Sea developed and how to duplicate them at home. Attention will be given to Spanish, southern French, Italian, Greek and Middle Eastern cuisines. Participants will explore the flavors that bind them together and what makes them different. Recreating traditional recipes and creating new ones inspired by tradition will both be explored in this course. Class participants will make the following dishes in class: April 19 – Homemade pasta and pesto; April 26– Coq au vin; May – Lamb Skewer; May 10– Gyro. Participants will need to bring supplies to class. Please contact Henning Community Education at 583-2927, ext. 8000 for a supply list. Please bring containers for taking home leftovers. The class is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, Tuesday, April 26, Thursday, May 5 and Tuesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at the Henning Community Center. The class fee is $78. Registration deadline is April 12.
Green clean— Cleaning a home should leave it really clean and not full of toxic chemicals. Learn how to clean with non-toxic, antimicrobial products that leave a house really clean and still safe. Class participants will make a DIY all-purpose cleaner. The class is scheduled for Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at the Henning Public School. Class fee is $12. Registration deadline is April 4.
Ceremics painting class— Who’s ready for spring? Join this class for an informal ceramic painting class. Participants will be painting flower pots and an adorable Gnome sidekick to hang from the side of the pot. When participants are finished they will handle firing the painted ceramic in the Kilns. The items will be ready in a week. The class will provide the paint brushes, pallets, and instruction. Class is scheduled for Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in the Henning Public School Art Room. The class fee is $27. Registration deadline is April 14.
Hummingbird canvas painting class— Come out and join this class for a fun filled evening of painting and socializing. No painting experience? No problem. One of Art Bar 39’s professional artists will be there to guide participants step by step through the process of creating their very own masterpiece. This is a fun class that can get a bit messy, please wear something you don’t mind getting paint on. Class is scheduled for Monday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Henning School Art Room. The class fee is $27. Registration deadline is April 4.
More Crafting With The Cricut Cutting Machine For The Beginner 201— Craft with Paula Gladback and learn about different tips, tricks and hacks that will help people when crafting with a cricut. Participants will learn some tricks for layering vinyl and htv (iron on). Participants will continue to work with design space and by the end of this class, individuals will be better able to upload images and fonts from both paid and free sites into Cricut Design Space. Those who attend the class will take home two completed projects: a sign using permanent vinyl and a fabric tote bag using heat transfer vinyl (iron on). There will also be door prizes, come learn, share and have fun. Contact Henning Community Education for pre-requisites and a supply list. The class is scheduled for Thursday, April 7 from 6:30-9 p.m. in the Henning Public School. The class fee is $50. Registration deadline is March 31.
DIY birdhouse and ceramic flower pot painting— Class participants will be able to paint a birdhouse and a ceramic flower pot. Participants will also plant flower seeds in the pot so they can watch them grow. This class is for students in grades kindergarten and up. The class is scheduled for Monday, April 11 from 3:15-4:45 p.m. in the Henning School Art Room. Class fee is $15. Registration deadline is April 4.
Five fabulous days of fabric fun— Youth will gather to learn the basics of sewing and make projects including a barbeque apron, 9 patch throw pillow, backpack, and more. All youth in grades 3 and up are invited to attend. The cost is $25 to cover supplies (fee waivers are available). Class size is limited. The class is scheduled for April 25, 26, 28, May 2 and 3 at the Henning Public School from after school until 5 p.m. Registration deadline is April 14.
