0On March 19, eight youth from the surrounding area travelled to Redwood Falls for the regional livestock 4-H project bowl competition.
The 4-H project bowl is the second most attended 4H event of the year. Teams of 3-6 youth are tested on their knowledge of their selected project area; dog, horse, poultry, rabbit, dairy, general livestock, and llama/alpaca.
EOT 4-H has one junior dairy team and one dairy senior team. Junior teams are youth under eighth grade, and senior teams have youth above eighth grade. Younger youth can be on senior teams, but older youth is not able to go to a junior team.
The EOT Jr team members are Caroline Schwantes (New York Mills), Caylee Seedorf (Perham), Ella Horn (Henning) and Kacie Riepe (Perham).
After four rounds of competition; where they were tested on their knowledge of dairy breeds, dairy judging/showing, crop sciences, feeding, dairy cattle anatomy, dairy herdsmanship and dairy industry knowledge; the team placed first out of three teams.
The EOT Sr. team members are Carter Seedorf (Perham), Jaden Gorentz (Vergas), Macey Minten (Perham), and Lucey Minten (Perham). After six rounds of competition, the team came out second of six teams.
Both teams will compete at the State Project Bowl on April 9, at Sauk Rapids/Rice High School. Team coaches are Jen Schwantes and Paul Seedorf. Each team is required to have three enrolled project volunteers; the following are the required volunteers Jen Minten, Jon Gorentz, Kelly Riepe, Samantha Horn and Devin Horn.
