The Henning BPA (Business Professionals of America) Chapter recently returned from state  contests, which were held in Minneapolis, Minn., at the Hyatt Regency from March 10-12. There were six Henning School students competing in the state this year with one, Emma Severson earning a trip to the National Contests in Dallas, Texas in May. There were a total of 850 students competing at the state BPA meet.

Severson earned her spot at National BPA with a first place finish in the Network Administration Using Cisco contest. She will now compete against other students from across the country in that same contest the week of May 4.

Other Henning School results from state contests include the following:

Emma Severson

• James Moran—13th in Fundamental Spreadsheets and 17th in Basic Office Systems and Procedures

• Kyle Tierney—13th in Intermediate Word Processing

• Tiffany Weber—15th in Fundamental Word Processing

• Lila Thorson—16th in Basic Office Systems and Procedures

• Emma Severson—20th in Extemporaneous Speaking in addition to her first place finish in Cisco.

With the craziness of the past couple of years and the inability to travel to state and national contests, Henning’s BPA numbers have suffered a bit, but this group of students did a great job of representing Henning and the Henning Public School.

Henning BPA advisor Mike Hepola said he hopes other students decide to give it a try next year.

With Severson’s upcoming trip to the national contests in Dallas comes some expenses. The Henning BPA will be working on a few things to help get her trip paid for and Hepola said the group would appreciate any help from any local organizations, businesses and people that would like to help.

Those who would like cover some of the expenses associated with the national trip can contact Hepola, or leave a message for him at the school office.
