The county board of commissioners, on March 15, approved a resolution requesting the Minnesota Department of Transportation to conduct a speed zone study on Highway 41 between East and West Silent Lakes.

This area of speed concern is located just north of Highway 108, between Dent and Pelican Rapids.

The Silent Lake Association, in a letter previously sent to the five-person county board of commissioners, said a more appropriate speed limit is needed to allow for safe movement through a residential area.

There are two public lake access points and 14 residential driveways in this area.

Lake association members say vehicles are frequently observed in excess of posted speed limits. The members say this, in turn, poses risks to local traffic and pedestrians.

Highway 41, they added, has close proximity to private property.

County commissioners said they look forward to the speed zone study conducted by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Safety factors, they note, always need to be taken into consideration.
