Sheriff deputies, in coordination with the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, reported a fatality near Dalton, along Interstate 94, Thursday evening, Feb. 24.

This was a two-vehicle collision that took place close to 7:30 p.m.

The deceased person was identified as 53-year-old Eswein Waldemar of West Kelowa, British Columbia, a province in western Canada. His 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was struck from behind by a 2021 Volvo semi driven by 49-year-old Ephrem Wendirad of Toronto, Ontario, a province in central Canada.

State highway patrol officers said both vehicles had been traveling eastward. They added that Waldemar’s Chevrolet was stopped in the lane of traffic when the collision took place.

Assisting sheriff deputies and the State Highway Patrol were Ringdahl Ambulance and first responders from Dalton and Ashby.

Dead Lake accident

A propane truck driver was injured while traveling along Dead Lake Road Thursday afternoon, Feb. 24, south of Dent.

Sheriff deputies said the driver, while passing another truck, was too close to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle went into the ditch and tipped on the driver’s side. 

The driver was able to remove himself from the cab and reported left shoulder pain to first responders.
