Sandhill Dairy feedlot hearing minutes, following a public hearing held Jan. 25 at the County Government Services Center in Fergus Falls, have been forwarded to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

The dairy, located in Corliss Township, northeast of Perham, previously made application to the MPCA for a permit to expand a feedlot with a capacity of 500 animal units or more. The feedlot owner seeks to expand the existing feedlot and replace the existing milk parlor with milking robots.

Otter Tail County held the public hearing on behalf of the MPCA which makes final decisions on feedlot applications.

County commissioners spoke in favor of the project and encouraged the expansion of agriculture in Otter Tail County.

Prior to the public meeting, notices were sent to residents and property owners  within 5,000 feet of the perimeter of the proposed feedlot, as required by Minnesota state law.

The existing facility near Perham consists of 586.6 animal units of dairy cattle. The proposed facility, if approved by the MPCA, will consist of 682 animal units of dairy cattle.
