Becca Frederick, Tiffany Weber, Lila Thorson, Emma Severson, James Moran and Kyle Tierney have advanced to the state BPA contest. The event will be held from March 10-12 in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Henning BPA (Business Professionals of America) students recently competed in Park Rapids for the Region 6 competition.

Only six students competed this year as the past couple of years without the opportunity to travel to contests has hurt the numbers that Henning High School and advisor Mike Hepola hope to rebuild. Despite having just six members, all six people have advanced to the state BPA contests that are set from March 10-12 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Seniors Emma Severson and James Moran led the group with at least one first place finish in their contests and advanced to state in two contests each.

Severson placed first in both Extemporaneous Speaking and Network Administration Using Cisco.

Moran placed first in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications and took home second place in Basic Office Systems and Procedures.

Tiffany Weber placed second in Fundamental Word Processing to advance to state while Lila Thorson and Kyle Tierney advanced with third place finishes in Basic Office Systems and Procedures and Intermediate Word Processing respectively.

Rounding out the group is Becca Frederick, who advanced to state after a fourth place finish in Intermediate Word Processing.

Hepola said the group did a great job and were a great group who competed against students from schools ranging from Grand Rapids, Barnum to Detroit Lakes and around 13 total schools.

Hepola asked the public to stay tuned for any opportunities to help these students in raising funds for their state and hopefully National BPA contests if fortunate enough to advance.
