This month County Auditor-Treasurer Wayne Stein is reviewing with county board members a previously-approved county board resolution to appoint the office of county auditor-treasurer.
A Minnesota statute allows for the incumbent auditor-treasurer to enter into a contract with the county board, making that incumbent an appointed auditor-treasurer.
Making this an appointed position ensures that future candidates are qualified to manage and oversee the complex financial and administrative duties and responsibilities within the department.
This office holder in Otter Tail County has many duties. Examples are finalizing tax levy and rate calculations for county taxing districts and distributing collected taxes to the proper governmental units.
Loon Lake Resort
The county board, on Jan. 11, approved a conditional use permit for Loon Lake Resort in Candor Township near Vergas.
This allows for a 39-unit resort expansion. There will be no additional dock slips. However, there will be additional driving surfaces and cart paths. This will necessitate approximately 150 cubic yards of dirt moving.
The application from Loon Lake Resort previously received approval from the county planning commission.
A motion to approve the conditional use permit was made by county board member Wayne Johnson of Pelican Rapids and was seconded by county board member Kurt Mortenson of rural Underwood. The motion passed unanimously by all five county board members.
