OTC to travel to Osakis for a triangular on Tuesday

The Yellowjackets of Perham made the long haul down Highway 78 to Battle Lake to take on the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs on Thursday night.  It was a great dual, as this was a rescheduled event from a couple of weeks ago and the only gym available was the Battle Lake small gym.

The place was packed for parent’s night, it was just unfortunate that the Bulldogs couldn’t secure the victory and lost 50-27.

The dual started off great for the Bulldogs as Mason Christianson was able to secure the opening bout of the night by defeating Dresden Wegscheid 11-5.

“I had a good talk with the boys before the match about trying to secure bonus points whenever possible, Mason had a seven point lead. So we told him to give up an escape and go for the takedown to try and get an 8 point victory, he just couldn’t quite secure that last takedown,” said coach Jason Rogers.

This put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Next the Bulldogs sent out Tayden Soma who dominated his match and ended up with a second period pin over Micah Bolderstron.  This gave the Bulldogs a 9-0 lead.

At 120 lbs. the Yellowjackets finally got on the scoreboard with a first period fall by Chandler Mickelson over Julian Umlauf.  This made the duel 9-6 in favor of the Bulldogs.

At 126 lbs., Perham sent out Teigan Detloff versus Carson Roehl of the Bulldogs. After an early takedown by Roehl, Detloff was able to comeback and secure the victory 9-2. This tied the match up at 9-9.

At 132 lbs., Perham was able to take its first lead of the night as Nick Peters pinned Levi Evavold. The dual would go back and forth after this, the Bulldogs and Yellowjackets kept trading pins. Brien Poser got a pin for the Bulldogs over Carson Byer at 138 lbs.  Then Kaden Feldt pinned Tommy Ehlert at 145 lbs. This led to Logan Schleske getting a pin over Logan Guck at 152 lns. and the dual found itself in a tie once again 21-21.

This brought the two teams to the 160 lbs. matchup between Jaxon Rich of the Bulldogs versus Blake Lorentz of the Yellowjackets. Lorentz ended up getting takedown after takedown, which led to a 23-7 victory and a tech fall for the Yellowjackets. This put the Yellowjackets up 26-21 and they didn’t look back after this.

At 170 lbs., Braylon Rach got a pin over Anibal Franco and at 182 lbs. Hugas Hames received a forfeit.  This put the Yellowjackets up 38-21.

At 195 lbs., Brian Ramos secured a pin over Jonny Fielding, giving the Yellowjackets 6 more points. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, Kale Rich was able to put an end to the Yellowjackets run as he got a pin at 220 lbs. over Rorey Lindquist.  This made the score 44-27.  Finally, Reese Willprecht received a forfeit at 285 lbs. and the Yellowjackets walked away with a 50-27 victory.

“I was very pleased with the way the boys wrestled tonight.  Perham always brings a very good team and we were able to hang with them for quite a while.  Unfortunately we don’t have a full lineup and that cost us a few points,” said Rogers.

This week the Bulldogs travel to Osakis for a triangular with Osakis and Long Prairie/Grey Eagle-Browerville on Tuesday.
