Henning opened the 2022 part of their schedule much in the same way 2021 ended—with a solid win on the court.

The Hornets improved to 9-0 on the season and improved to 4-0 in the Park Region Conference with a 65-41 win against Verndale on Thursday night.

“It was fun to get back in the gym in front of a nice crowd. Verndale is a very experienced team that presents some challenges with their zone,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “We did a nice job moving the ball and getting a number of guys involved.”

The Hornets came firing out of the gates as they held a 39-22 lead at halftime and continued to find success both offensively and defensively in a slower paced second half. As a team, the Hornets shot 46 percent from the field, but hit 21-37 from inside the 3-point line. Henning also moved the ball around throughout the night as they had 21 team assists on 24 made shots.

Calvin Stueve led the way offensively as the senior had 20 points off of just 6-9 shooting, while he also had 4 assists and 6 rebounds. Mason Hammer chipped in with 14 points to go along with 5 rebounds, while Kale Misegades was 6-10 from the floor to finish with 13 points and Tyson Misegades joined them in double-figures with 10 points.

Tanner Arndt finished with 6 points to go along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds and Carter Dilly rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

This week the last two remaining unbeaten teams in the PRC will face off in Henning. The Hornets are currently ranked eighth in the QRF and will host the fourth ranked team in the QRF in New York Mills. The Eagles are 9-0 overall and are also 4-0 in the conference.

“New York Mills will bring one of the top teams in the state to Henning Tuesday night. We’ll need to play our best game of the season in order win. Our team is excited for the challenge,” said Misegades.
