Woman with early dementia scammed out of money

Otter Tail County Correspondent 

Sheriff deputies, on Nov. 1, reported that one person was injured Oct. 29 in a traffic accident east of Henning near the intersection of Highway 210 and Highway 29.

The injury was minor.

Assisting sheriff deputies at the scene of the accident were members of the Minnesota State Highway Patrol.

Injuries were reported in a two-vehicle traffic accident Oct. 30 west of Erhard, near the intersection of Highways 21 and 24.

Three people were reportedly injured. Sheriff deputies said the crash resulted after one vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign.

Woman with early

dementia scammed 

A woman who has early dementia, while living with her daughter, was scammed out of close to $10,000. The woman lives southwest of Otter Tail Lake.

This was a Facebook romance scam, reported to sheriff deputies on Oct. 29. The woman reportedly made three financial transactions.

Deputies said the daughter now has power of attorney with the mother’s bank account.

Romance scams reported to authorities total more than 20,000 per year.

Chase from I-94 

through Rothsay 

ends in Wahpeton

A suspect fled authorities in a vehicle from Interstate 94 into Rothsay early in the afternoon on Oct. 31.

The male suspect then fled into Wilkin County where deputies in that county took over from deputies in Otter Tail County. 

The suspect, a male who had been pulling a trailer, fled from Breckenridge into North Dakota and was apprehended by police in Wahpeton. 

No further details were available.
