Henning finishes season with 21 wins, PRC title

The Henning Hornets’ season ended sooner than they would have liked it to in the Sub-Section 6A finals on Thursday night.

The Hornets lost 2-3 (25-17, 32-34, 25-21,18-25 and 5-15) to Breckenridge.  Breckenridge then went on to claim the Section 6A championship with a 3-2 win over BBE.

It was definitely a rollercoaster game. There was some great hitting and digging and the volleys were long and intense. The Hornets controlled set one and most of set two. With the score 18-14 in the second game the Cowgirls sided out and went on a little run to tie the game. The Hornets then sided out and pushed back ahead 21-19, but the Cowgirls would not back down. They tied it back up and the score went back and forth until the Cowgirls found an open corner and the game ended 32-34.

In game three the Hornets started out slow, but they fought back and pulled off the win. In games 4 and 5, the Hornets serve receive struggled, so Henning’s first attack was not what they needed it to be to defeat a team like Breckenridge.

The Cowgirls kept serving aggressive and controlled the offense in game five. The Hornets fought hard, but the strong blocking and aggressive hitting from the Cowgirls was just too much for them to pull off the win.

As a team the Hornets had 54 kills, hitting at .105, they served at 95 percent with 9 aces, 8 blocks and serve received 80 percent to the target.

Leading the way on the night was Ally Hart, she had 18 kills, 2 ace serves, and 38 digs.  Grace Hammer and Emma Severson each had 15 kills for the night. Faith Fisher led the team in digs with 40.

Becca Frederick led the team with 2 solo and 3 assist blocks and had 2 kills. Lyvia Misegades had 2 ace serves and led the team 48 assists. Gretchen Eckhoff led the team with 4 ace serves and had 22 digs. Lily Fraki and Aaliyah Olson had some great plays on the night. Fraki also had 2 kills and 9 digs and Olson had 13 digs.

The Hornets had an outstanding season 21-9 overall, and 7-0 in the PRC.

“I am very proud on what the Hornets accomplished this season. Thank you to our fans throughout the year. The energy that you brought to the gym was outstanding,” said head coach Kristy Finck. “Also a huge thank-you to the parents for all of the support you gave your daughter throughout the season. You are all appreciated for everything you did for us.”
