OTC ends season with a 9-1 record

Top seeded and fourth ranked Otter Tail Central was upended by the Breckenridge Cowboys by a score of 26-8 in the semi-finals of the Section 6A tournament on Saturday. The loss was the first of the season for the Bulldogs who ended their season with a record of 9-1.

With the win, the Cowboys will take on third seeded New York Mills on Friday night in the FargoDome for the Section 6A championship. 

Tuesday

Five touchdowns in the first half alone was all of the scoring the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs needed on Tuesday night as they defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 42-7 in Henning.

Tyler Christensen put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard on a 2-yard run in the first quarter. The point after attempt was no good to leave the score at 6-0.

Calvin Stueve followed with a pair of touchdown runs later in the quarter, on a 4-yard and a 37-yard run to make the game 22-0 in favor of OTC. Buehler and Mason Hammer converted each of the two-point conversions.

In the second quarter, Buehler was on the receiving end of a 47-yard touchdown pass from Tanner Arndt and Stueve scored his third touchdown of the half on a 4-yard run to make the score 36-0 at halftime. Buehler made both point after attempts.

OTC scored its final touchdown of the game in the third quarter when Christensen found the end zone on a 27-yard run. 

In the fourth quarter the Wolves avoided a shutout by scoring on a 4-yard run to leave the score at 42-7. 

As a team, the Bulldogs dominated the Wolves as OTC finished with 362 yards of total offense, compared to 141 yards for the Wolves. OTC had 77 yards passing with 285 yards on the ground. The Bulldogs also forced 3 WHA turnovers and converted 15 first downs. 

Arndt led the way through the air as he went 3-4 passing for 77 yards and 1 touchdown, while Buehler was the leading receiver with 1 catch for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Stueve had a big game on the ground as he rushed for 114 yards on 11 carries and 3 touchdowns. Christensen rushed 13 times for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hammer rushed 13 times for 50 yards and Arndt rushed 1 time for 16 yards. 

Saturday

Tanner Arndt scored on Otter Tail Central’s opening drive of the game, but Breckenridge scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to hand the Bulldogs their first loss of the season by a score of 26-8 on Saturday.

Arndt put the Bulldogs in front in the opening quarter of the game when he scored on a 1-yard run. Owen Buehler converted the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0. 

Cameron Nieto made the game 8-6 in the second quarter as the Cowboys running back scored his first of four touchdowns on the day. This time he scored from 45 yards out to make the score 8-6 in favor of OTC heading into halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Nieto took over the game as he scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of 7-yards, 41-yards and 23-yards to put the game out of reach for Breckenridge. Nieto accumulated almost all of the yards on the ground for Breckenridge as the Cowboys out gained the Bulldogs 261 yards to 207 yards of total offense. The OTC defense held Breckenridge to 1-4 passing for -1 yards, while the Cowboys had 262 yards of rushing. 

Arndt led the way passing as he went 5-12 for 35 yards, while Mason Hammer had 2 catches for 18 yards, Buehler had 1 catch for 8 yards and Calvin Stueve caught 1 pass for 2 yards.

Hammer led the team in rushing with 13 carries for 62 yards, Arndt had 12 carries for 60 yards and 1 touchdown, Stueve had 12 carries for 28 yards and Bricker Bladow had 5 carries for 25 yards.
