The Otter Tail Central cross country teams competed at the conference meet last week. The girls team took third place and the boys took second.

The Park Region conference cross country meet was held in Wadena, on Tuesday, Oct. 19.  The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs both came away with podium finishes and totaled five runners earning all-conference honors.

The girls were first to toe the line and were led by Kyleigh Shebeck finishing in ninth place with a time of 22:14. Erika Heibel and Norah Froslee also earned all-conference by finishing in 11th and 15th.

Laney Frost and Allyson Goodman just missed out on the top 20 by placing 21st and 22nd to round out the scoring Bulldogs. The girls team finished in third place with 78 points, UNC was second with 62 and WDC won the meet with 40 points.

“I’m happy with how the girls were able to come out today and compete with some really good programs,” said coach Speicher. “Wadena is a very good team and the girls went out and stuck with them for a little more than half the race. We had a great team showing and I look forward to carrying this momentum into the section meet on Friday.”

In the boys race, Bertha-Hewitt took home the conference title with 37 points, the Bulldogs were second with 70, and ABE in third with 85. For the first time all season the first runner to cross for the Bulldogs was Joseph Froslee in seventh place, earning an all-conference honor, and right on his heels was senior Isaac Scherfenberg in eighth, to also earn all-conference honors.

Peter Newark, Blake Alonzo and Jonas Hagemeister squeezed into the top 20 finishing, 17th, 18th and 20th respectively.

“This boys season really has been a rollercoaster, unfortunately due to illness we have yet to run our complete team since the fourth week of the season. For the guys to go out short handed and get second I thought was impressive. Hopefully for sections we will have everyone back and look to surprise some teams in our section,” said Speicher.
