Hornets receive second seed in section tournament

  • Faith Fisher was joined by her teammates on Tuesday after becoming the eighth person in school history to get 1,000 career digs.

The Henning Hornets had a successful week as they improved their overall record to 19-8 and claimed the Park Region Conference championship (7-0) with their win over Verndale last Tuesday. On Monday the Hornets defeated Parkers Prairie 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-9). Game score against Verndale were also 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-13).

In their game against Parkers Prairie the Hornets served 100 percent with 5 aces, they had 39 kills, hitting at .192, 11 blocks, serve receive was at 82 percent and their digging was at 84 percent. 

Grace Hammer led the team in kills with 12, Ally Hart had 9, Emma Severson 7, while Becca Frederick and Lyvia Misegades each had 3. Severson also led the team with 6 blocks.  

Faith Fisher led the team in digs with 23 and Misegades led the team with 30 set assists.

In the game against Verndale, the Hornets started out a little slow, with several unforced errors the Hornets trailed 6-3 early in the match. They eventually settled in and took control as they finished the first set by a score of 25-10. The gym was quiet and it took a lot of effort for the Hornets to show excitement. 

In game three the Hornets played with more energy and then towards the end of the match, there was a lot of excitement as Faith Fisher reached the milestone of 1,000 digs. Fisher is the seventh Hornet in school history to reach that milestone. Head coach Kristy Finck said it was fun celebrating Fisher’s milestone and also claiming the PRC championship after the match.

On the night the Hornets served 94 percent with 5 aces. They had 30 kills, hitting at .120, 5 blocks, serve received 89 percent and dug the ball at 70 percent.

Ally Hart had a good night as she led the team with 12 kills, she served 15/15, and had 12 digs. Fisher and Gretchen Eckhoff both had 16 digs to lead the team. Grace Hammer led the team with 4 assist blocks and Becca Frederick had 3 and Emma Serverson 2. Lyvia Misegades led the team in assists with 26.  

The Hornets will now start playoffs this week.  The Hornets are seeded second in Sub-Section 6A North. They will play at home, on Wednesday, Oct 27 at 7 p.m. They will open the playoffs against the seventh seeded Battle Lake Battlers or 10th seeded Rothsay. These two teams will play on Monday, Oct. 25. 

If the Hornets win they will play at home again on Friday, Oct. 29.  This game would be against third seeded Underwood or sixth seeded NCE-UH.
