The back wall of the waiting room at AutoFix got a bit brighter last week as Jeff Weller and his wife Holly returned from a trip to San Antonio, Texas. ¶ After being nominated as the region finalist, Weller made the trek to Texas to compete against 10 other people from across the United States, as well as Canada and Honduras in the national 2021 Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper Technician of the Year.
Competing against people from all different size communities and shops, the rural Henning resident not only did well on his test, he was named as the 2021 Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper Technician of the Year.
“When I took the test I felt pretty good about it.”Jeff Weller
Not only did he become the first champion to ever actually finish all 100 questions on the test in 90 minutes, but he was the first one to complete the test in his group.
“The winner has never finished the test,” he said with a chuckle. “I was the first one done.”
In addition to the title of the 2021 Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper Technician of the Year, Weller received a monetary prize, a plaque and since the contest was in Texas, a large belt buckle. The championship was the culmination of an all expenses paid trip to Texas where he had the chance to meet technicians from across the country. Weller said the trip was amazing and was extremely well planned out by the organizers.
“They had everything planned out, it was awesome,” he said of the trip to San Antonio.
Next month Weller will hit the road again for an ASE recognition banquet in Arizona where he will be recognized as the 2021 Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper Technician of the Year.
