Children and adults from across the region converged on Ottertail on Saturday afternoon for the 15th annual Pumpkin Festival. The event featured a pumpkin carving contest, a variety of games, live music and a number of different kinds of food.
October is underway and that means its time for the 2016 Henning Community Fund Drive. A total of 25 organizations are taking part in this annual fundraiser to raise money for each of their organizations. The annual fundraiser is a one- stop fundraiser for area non-profits to help them raise necessary funds to provide services for those in the community. Last year’s fund drive raised over $3,338 for area non-profits.

With the football, volleyball and cross country seasons winding down and the basketball and wrestling seasons not yet underway, a new interim sport has been introduced in Henning: pie eating. The gastronomic sport was introduced by creamy-faced competitors last Saturday, Oct. 12, as a feature of the Henning Octoberfest, sponsored by the Henning Chamber of Commerce. Twenty-one pumpkin pies with whipped cream were prepared by Kountry Korner Kafe. In the age 6-12 division Paul Peterson was the winner. Ben Vogt won the teenage division even though his 6’4” height may have given him a slight disadvantage. Darrell Richter was declared the winner in the adult division by beating Jon Lundquist.
Henning’s not-yet-formally organized H-545 Scholarship Foundation will get underway with a number of contributions, including an extra $10,000 in profits from this summer’s Henning All-School Reunion.
At the final meeting of the All-School Reunion Committee, it was announced the event’s revenue from all sources was $44,135.88, compared with expenses of $31,092.74, leaving a profit of $13,043.14. The committee voted to contribute $10,000 to the H-545 Scholarship Foundation. The remaining $3,000 is to be invested and used specifically as a start-up fund for the next all-school reunion.

The leaves are falling, skirts getting longer, money getting easier, and near beer getting nearer. Show us the sucker that said everything was going to the everlasting weinerwursts and we will show you a foreign born pessimist.
A Fargo man is suing for divorce because his wife won’t talk to him. A rare case, gentlemen. In fact exceedingly rare.
Some burglar of amateurish ability and courage entered Geo. Poulson’s hardware store on Saturday night by way of the side shed. The intruder did not get into the main store, possibly losing his nerve. There is a stock of lubricating oils, etc., in this shed and he may have gotten away with any quantity of the oils without detection. This is the fourth petty burglary in the village in a few month’s time.
A tourist, coming through with his family in a Chevrolet car, had bad luck last Saturday. Just outside the village to the west a cow disputed the right-of-way. The driver thought the cow would get off the road, but instead the animal buck led up and hit the radiator of the car with its head. The party was detained here several hours while the damage was repaired.

Otter Tail County de facto, de jure, has only had a very brief existence. A term of the District Court will be held here this autumn; but about the time the judiciary has become fairly and firmly established, there are those that would seek to divide the county, and again produce all that chaos, anarchy, and dissatisfaction from which we have so recently been delivered.
In view of these statements, (whether facts or fancies, I leave the intelligent voters and tax-payers to decide).
The new flouring mill, being erected at this place by R.L. Frazee, is progressing finely being now all enclosed and under cover.
Ducks, prairie chickens and partridges are abundant in the vicinity of Ottertail City, and those of our citizens who have a taste for sport, and are not to lazy to go after them, are having daily feasts that would make the mouths of “city-folks” water with envy.
