0Bulldogs head to Fergus Falls for a meet on Thursday
Over 4,000 athletes from 160 schools made the trip down to Milica for the world’s largest cross country race on Saturday. The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs were able to come away with multiple impressive finishes throughout the day.
The best placements of the meet came from the eighth grade group. Peter Newark and Talyn Setterholm set the tone early by placing third and eighth in the two mile race running times of 11:31 and 11:45. They were the top two Class A runners in the field of 291 competitors, while leading the junior high squad that consisted of Gabe Lindstom, Taydon Somam, Mason Hoyt and Cade Strege to an eighth place finish. The Bulldogs were also the top Class A school.
Norah Froslee in the girls eighth grade race also made it into the top 10 with an eighth place finish in a time of 13:14.
“Our younger runners showed today that they are some of the top runners not only in Class A but the state,” said coach Speicher. “Peter and Talyn continue to impress me with their confidence while racing. We currently have a great core of junior high runners, Jack Robinson, Fred Scott and Logan Jenson in the seventh grade race all ran yet another personal best today. This group will be exciting to watch going forward.”
The rest of the Bulldog runners were spread out in six different races as each race in Milaca is separated so competitors run against their grade level.
Some highlights include personal best runs from Quinn Condiff with a time of 22:43, Norman Hoff with a time of 20:45 and August Wicklund with a time of 19:51. Senior Raeanne Frost ran a season best time of 23:26 and seventh grader Clair Kraemer ran a personal best time in the two mile by a minute.
“Every week we continue to gain another piece of the puzzle for what it will take to compete at a high level for championship season. While I am very pleased with our performance at Milaca, we still have plenty of work to do,” said Speicher.
