Bulldogs edge Cowboys, Huskies to open the season

0Otter Tail Central to host Underwood in BL on Friday
Tanner Arndt scored a pair of touchdowns and threw for 116 yards as the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs defeated Breckenridge by a score of 22-8 on Sept. 3.
Calvin Stueve got the scoring going in the first quarter as the senior found the end zone from 3-yards out. The two-point conversion failed and left the score at 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Breckenridge took its first lead of the game in the second quarter when the Cowboys scored on a 74-yard touchdown run. They converted the two-point conversion to make the score 8-6.
Arndt gave the Bulldogs the lead for good later in the second quarter when the senior scored on a 1-yard run and the Bulldogs converted the two-point conversion to make the score 14-8 at halftime.
OTC got a bit of breathing room in the third quarter when Arndt scored his second touchdown, this time from 9-yards out, to make the game 20-8. The two-point conversion was good to give OTC a 22-8 lead.
Neither team was able to find the end zone in the final quarter to give OTC a 22-8 win over Breckenridge.
Arndt went 7-12 passing for 116 yards and rushed 8 times for 34 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Stueve rushed 17 times for 89 yards and a touchdown, while Mason Hammer rushed 18 times for 61 yards.
Stueve also led the team in receiving with 2 receptions for 45 yards, while Owen Buehler caught a pair of passes for 36 yards and Hammer caught a pass for 5 yards.
As a team, the Bulldogs held the Cowboys to just 173 total yards, including just 24 through the air. Meanwhile, OTC finished with 320 yards, including 204 yards on the ground.
Friday
OTC started and finished strong as they defeated Pillager 20-6 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Tanner Arndt scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter to give OTC a 6-0 lead. Pillager answered the score later in the first quarter on a 5-yard run, before Arndt found Owen Buehler on a 13-yard pass to give OTC a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The game remained 12-6 until the fourth quarter when Bricker Bladow put the game out of reach when he scored on a 3-yard run and converted a two-point conversion to give OTC the 20-6 win.
Arndt finished the game by going 9-15 for 93 yards through the air, while Mason Hammer led the way on the ground with 64 yards on 15 carries.
Bladow finished with 29 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown, while Arndt rushed 6 times for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Tyson Misegades led the team in receiving with 3 catches for 29 yards and as a team OTC out gained the Huskies by a 228 to 181 margin. The Bulldog defense was able to hold Pillager to just 14 yards through the air and just 1-9 on third down. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were 6-10 on third down and 1-3 on fourth down.
This week the 2-0 Bulldogs will host Underwood in Battle Lake in OTC’s home opener.
The Rockets come into the game with a 1-1 record after falling to Pelican Rapids 42-0 in the opener and defeating Roseau 38-18 last week.
