Injuries were reported in a traffic accident at 5:20 p.m. on March 29 near Vining. Deputies and first responders were called to the scene at the interaction of Highway 210 and Creekside Road.

Another accident with injuries, this time involving an ATV, took place two days previously, on March 27. The location was near Shallow Shores Drive between Dent and Maplewood State Park.

Sheriff deputies said four juvenile females were on the ATV when it rolled one time and landed on its wheels. The injuries to three of the riders were minor.

Authorities said the ATV was traveling at only about 10 miles per hour when the accident took place. The mishap took place on private property, near the roadway.

Home destroyed by 

fire near Vergas

Sheriff deputies reported that a house near Vergas was destroyed by fire late Monday afternoon, March 29.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire near East Lake Seven Road. Authorities said the fire was linked to a nearby maple syrup boiler/cooker.

Assisting Vergas firefighters at the scene of the fire were members of the Perham and Detroit Lakes fire departments. No injuries were reported.

Easter weekend 

accidents reported

Sheriff deputies, on Monday, April 5, reported four accidents with injuries during the 2021 Easter weekend in Otter Tail County.

The first accident took place at 1:03 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at the intersection of 365th Avenue and 500th Street, northeast of Vergas. A male juvenile rolled his vehicle. He and two passengers received minor injuries. All were wearing seatbelts.

A two-vehicle crash at 7:37 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, resulted in a possible broken left rib to one of the drivers. The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 48 and 625th Avenue, northeast of Parkers Prairie.

One vehicle braked for a deer and was rear ended by the second vehicle. The injured driver was taken to the hospital in Wadena. No citations were issued.

The third weekend accident took place 8:58 a.m., also on Saturday, April 3, at the intersection of Highway 56 and 585th Avenue, northwest of Bluffton in eastern Otter Tail County.

A driver was blinded by the sun, lost control of his vehicle and struck an embankment. He sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was heavily damaged and was towed from the scene of the accident.

The final weekend accident with two injuries took place at 11:02 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, at the intersection of Highways 60 and 10, northwest of Perham.

A Ford Taurus, heading eastbound on Highway 60, failed to yield at the intersection. The vehicle struck a camper being hauled westbound on Highway 10.

Injured were the two drivers, 18-year-old Carson Stewart Hespe of Frazee and 31-year-old Anthony Michael Schnoor of Strandquist, Minnesota, northwest of Thief River Falls. Neither injury was life threatening.
