Severson places first at state contest, Hansen places fourth

The Henning Business Professionals of America (BPA) Chapter had a smaller group this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The students also had to complete everything online, rather than competing at other locations across the region, but it was no less successful.  

Henning School only had nine students in BPA this year, but all nine of them qualified for the state contests by placing in the top five of their contests at the Regional level and several of them advanced in both of their contests.  

Eight of the nine (one chose not to compete) then competed in the state contests for a chance to advance to the National Contests. The team had great success at this level as well with 6 of those 8 placing in the Top 10 of their events including state champion Emma Severson in Network Admin Using Cisco.  

Katherine Hansen would have been joining Severson at nationals with an impressive fourth place finish in Advanced Word Processing.  

This year’s National BPA was scheduled to take place in Orlando, Flor., but has been moved to online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After some discussion, the Henning team has decided not to compete in the national contests online.  

Advisor Mike Hepola said he is very proud of this group of young ladies and look forward to more normal competitions next year. He also hopes to get Henning’s numbers back into the 30s and 40s as we’ve had in past years.
