Blue, yellow and mismatched socks will be the fashion trend of the day on Friday throughout the Henning community. Students and staff at Henning School, as well as in the community, are encouraged to wear the sock combinations in honor of World Down syndrome Day.

Pam Wiese and Charlene Witt display some of the books Witt purchased for the school about Down Syndrome.

The day is organized each year by Charlene Witt and a number of local volunteers to show support for students with Down Syndrome.

The theme for the year is “More Alike Than Different,” and some students at the school could also receive a gift bag in Hendrick’s and Callie’s honor. The Henning School Library has also received books about Down Syndrome in the school library. The books were gifted to the school in honor of Down syndrome Day.

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated each year on March 21. Since March 21 is a Saturday, organizers have opted to celebrate the day on March 19 so the students at the school and community can join in the festivities.
