Sheriff deputies, on March 10, said the driver of a vehicle was injured in a traffic accident near the west side of Star Lake. The accident took place at 7:55 p.m. on Highway 41 (Galaxy Road) southwest of Dent.

Deputies said the victim, a male, was driving north on Highway 41 when he lost control of his vehicle, entered the east ditch and struck a sign.

The 60-year-old male sustained injuries to a lower leg. He was transported to the hospital in Detroit Lakes.

Sheriff’s office receives

gift from Project Linus

The county sheriff’s office has received several handmade blankets from Project Linus to provide to children in need. 

The mission of Project Linus is to provide comfort to children who are traumatized, or otherwise in need, by providing handmade blankets lovingly created by volunteers referred to as “blanketeers.”

The Project Linus national headquarters is located in Belton, Missouri. Chapters are located in central and northern Minnesota.

Burglary reported

Sheriff deputies, on March 7, reported that a theft took place and several items were missing from a residence and shed at Eldorado Beach Road on the northwest side of Otter Tail Lake.

An investigation was continuing as of Monday March 8.

Handgun carry permits

Handgun carry permits were reported by the sheriff’s office on  March 8, one each for residents of New York Mills, Perham, Richville, Ottertail and Frazee.

A permit to carry is valid for five years in the state of Minnesota. Applicants must present evidence of having received training in the safe use of a handgun (from certified instructors) within one year of an original application or renewal.
