This week the Hornets will wrap up their regular season with a pair of conference games at home against Wadena-Deer Creek on Monday and Verndale on Friday. They will also travel to Underwood on Saturday for a non-conference game.

The Section 6A tournament will kick off next week with the Hornets currently in third place in the north sub section with a QRF ranking of 37. Top ranked Mahnomen/Waubun is currently leading the way with New York Mills in second place with a QRF ranking of 4. Hillcrest is currently in fourth place with a QRF ranking of 58.

The section tournament will be a bit different from years past this year as the higher seeded team will host all of the games through the section championship. The section championship game will be held on March 26 at a yet-to-be-determined location.

Saturday

The Henning Hornets hosted Parkers Prairie in what is typically one of the more competitive and toughest games for both teams each season. Saturday’s non-conference game was no exception as the Hornets fell to Parkers Prairie by a score of 69-56 in a game that was much closer than the final score may have indicated.

Henning trailed just 34-30 at halftime and stuck with the Panthers for much of the second half as the Hornets shot 38 percent from the field and went 10-15 from the free throw line.

“Our kids played really hard for 36 minutes, which is what we all we can ask them to do. Parkers Prairie is an athletic, big, physical and skilled team. We competed with them for a majority of the game, but just didn’t make enough plays to come away with a win. We’re proud of our effort against a quality opponent and hope we can build off this game as we enter the final week of the regular season.”
