Henning to travel to Verndale on Thursday

Henning improved to 6-3 overall, and 4-3 in the Park Region Conference with a split in two games last week.

On Tuesday the Hornets defeated Wadena-Deer Creek by a score of 52-40, before falling the New York Mills on Friday by a score of 61-32. 

Currently the Hornets are in a tie for third place in the conference, along with Wadena-Deer Creek and Verndale with a record of 4-3. 

This week the Hornets will travel to Verndale in their lone game of the week. 

Tuesday

Tanner Arndt scored 21 points and finished with 6 assists as the Henning Hornets defeated Wadena Deer Creek by a score of 52-40 on Tuesday. Henning shot 40 percent from the field and hit six 3-pointers in their fourth Park Region Conference win of the season. 

“This was a good PRC win on the road against a quality, experienced team,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “We really struggled offensively, both shooting and taking care of the ball.  But, I was proud of our defensive effort.”

The Hornets did a good job of keeping control of the ball throughout the night as they had just 10 turnovers, while coming away with 9 Wolverine steals.

In addition to Arndt, Mason Hammer reached double figures with 12 points and senior Joe Angell was a perfect 5-5 from the field to finish with 10 points. Angell also led the team in rebounds with 6, including 5 on the offensive end of the court. 

Tyson Misegades scored 6 points, while Kale Misegades finished the game with 3 points in the win.

Friday

Henning fell to New York Mills for the second time this season, this time by a score of 61-32. After winning six of their last seven games, the Hornets had an off night against the conference leading Eagles. 

“We competed hard, but our inexperience playing in high-level games showed up tonight,” said head coach Randy Misegades. 

Throughout the night Henning struggled to get their shot to fall throughout the night as they shot just 16 percent from the field and just four Hornets reached the scoring column. 

“We shot a woeful 16 percent from the floor. We allowed NY Mills to force us into playing faster than we are comfortable,” said Misegades. “They are a quality team and deserve a lot of credit for our offensive struggles.

Chris Hammer led the way offensively with 11 points, while Tyson Misegades also reached double figures with 10 points. Tanner Arndt scored 7 points and Calvin Stueve rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

Senior post players Ethan Houselog and Joe Angell had big nights on the boards as they finished with 10 and 6 rebounds respectively.
