Former fire chief, businessman passes away

Longtime businessman Dick Brogard passed away on Feb. 7 at his daughter’s home in Savage, Minn.
Brogard, who was the son of the late Emmett and Pauline Brogard, graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1952. After graduation he was employed by F.R. Stuart in Henning as an apprentice plumber. In 1954, he moved to the Twin Cities area to work for Hoglund Mechanical and attended the Dunwoody Institute where he learned the plumbing and mechanical industry.
Along with his wife Lorraine, the Brogards made their home in Crystal, New Hope and Wayzata, Minn, before moving back to Henning in 1970 when they purchased Brogard Speed Wash from his parents.
In 1973, Brogard started Brogard, Plumbing, Heating and Excavating, before eventually retiring from the business in 2000.
Brogard was a member of a number of organizations in the community and served on the Henning Fire Department from 1971-97. He served as fire chief from 1975-90.
Brogard was 87 years of age and is survived by three children, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of family members and friends. His funeral was held on Monday, Feb. 15 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning.
