Accident occurred southeast of Ottertail on Thursday

Joe Mack, 60, of Ottertail, was killed when his vehicle was hit by a train southeast of the city of Ottertail at 8:48 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office report said.

The accident took place at the intersection of 460th Avenue and 308th Street just southeast of town. The name of the victim had not been released as of Friday morning, Feb. 5.

Several first responders were at the scene of the accident including Henning Ambulance, Perham EMS and Ottertail Fire Department volunteers.

Two injured in rollovers

A man received a head laceration during a one-vehicle rollover at 8:43 a.m. on Feb. 4 just north of Fergus Falls.

The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 27 and Melody Drive. Deputies sad the vehicle came to rest in the ditch following the rollover.

Another rollover and injury took place at 9:35 a.m. on Feb. 4 at the intersection of Highway 1 and Silver Ridge Road. The location was just south of Fergus Falls.

Phone scam results

in loss of $1,500

A resident of Loon Lake, south of Vergas, was likely scammed out of $1,500 on Feb. 5.

Sheriff deputies said the resident received a call close to 2 p.m. saying she could receive genetic testing for $1,500. The rural Vergas resident then supplied her Social Security number.

The scam victim was not able to later access her bank accounts. She was advised to place a fraud alert on her credit report, contact her bank and cancel all credit cards.
