Even the smallest gesture can bring a sense of calm in the face of tragedy. That is the hope of a stuffed animal program by local fire, police and ambulance departments. The program provides a free stuffed animal when emergency personnel respond to a call with young children.
The program received a big boost recently as a longtime Parkers Prairie Fire Department member donated 50 stuffed animals to the Henning Police, Fire and Ambulance Service.
“Todd (Quick) just called us and said ‘hey I have some stuff for you,’” said Henning Fire and Police Chief Mike Helle. “He said he had some bears for us and that is what he brought up.”
Quick purchased all of the stuffed animals, bagged them and donated them to several area departments. Helle wasn’t sure how many different departments received stuffed animals from Quick, but the gifts will go a long ways to help bring calm to a child during a tragic situation.
