Library Happenings

Henning School

The Ottertail Rod and Gun Club gave a $1,000 donation to the Henning Public School Library.

Pam Wiese and Laura Smith presented to the Ottertail Rod and Gun Club at two meetings, showcasing the need to update the nonfiction and fiction book sections in the library. The focus on this first phase of the Pages for a Purpose book campaign is the junior fiction and junior nonfiction books.

With the money, the books that will be purchased will include the categories of hunting, fishing, lakes, rivers, recreation, archery, etc. During the meeting held at the Woodshed in Ottertail, the members were able to see aged books compared to updated books.

The members were informed of the way that the books are displayed currently, facing forward on the slat walls and how this has improved checkout. They also learned that between 400 and 500 library books each week are checked out, brought back, washed, and redisplayed. Inside these new books that are being purchased, the Ottertail Rod and Gun name will be displayed so that any patron of the library checking out these books can see where the funds came from to purchase it.

With the average price of a hardcover, library bound book being $26, this donation will purchase approximately 38 new books. The library is working with a book company that will give 100 free books for every $5,000 that is spent with that company. A total of 100 books is approximately a $2,600 value back to the library.

The Henning Public School Library is very thankful for the generous donation the Ottertail Rod and Gun Club has given.
