0Local food shelf could receive up to $4,000 in additional grant funding

The Henning Food Shelf is participating in the statewide “Open Your Heart Summer Challenge” that will provide matching funds for cash donations made to the food shelf during the month of July.
The Henning Community Food Shelf will again participate along with other food shelves statewide in the “Open Your Heart Summer Challenge” that will provide matching funds for cash donations made to the food shelf from July 1-31.
The July challenge is designed to help local food shelves raise more funds in local communities with the opportunity to receive a proportionally matched grant from “Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless.”
The minimum match will be $150 and the maximum grant award is $4,000, with awards being dependent upon the total number of Minnesota food shelves participating and the total amount each food shelf raises in July.
“With our successful March campaign in the spring and generous holiday donations in late fall, the summer months always seem to be a time when donations dwindle to nothing,” said Karen Stueve, Henning Food Shelf director. “This matching grant offers a special opportunity to give us a summer boost. We are blessed to have this valuable community resource for our neighbors with food insecurities and appreciate our many generous donors who help us keep it going.”
All financial donations made to the Henning Food Shelf during July by individuals, groups, churches and businesses will count toward the proportional match. While food donations are always welcome as well, they will not count toward the fund-raising total for this grant. Donations may be sent to the Henning Food Shelf, P.O. Box 176, Henning, MN 56551, or may be dropped off at Thalmann’s Insurance in Henning by July 31.
Food shelf volunteers thanks the public for their summer support of the food shelf.
